This three to four day walk takes you from the Forestry head quarters up the Styx River to the heights of Point Lookout at the end of the final day. Walking in this direction, there's a strong sense of achievement and anticipation as you slowly climb to the top of the range. The days are easy, though there's a bit of a climb on each of the days. There are pleasant camping spots at the end of each day, accessible by 4WD support vehicles.

1. Headquarters to Wattle Flat - The start of the walk takes you from the old forestry headquarters down to the Styx River. The river provides beautiful views and clear flowing water.

2. Eelly Creek Lookout - a steady and slightly challenging climb to the top of the lookout provides walkers with great views to the west across the gorges to the tableland grazing areas.

3. Eelly Camp - This campsite just above the Styx provides an area protected for pitching a tent.

4. Mullens Fire Trail - after a steep climb out of the Styx in the morning, the second day provides a pleasant easy days walk. The walk takes you along the edge of the forest bordering onto grazing land. Once back into the forest watch out for Lyre birds as you walk along the trail.

5. Hyatts Camp to Spring Creek - After camp at Hyatts flat the third days walk starts with a walk out of the river again to a beautiful days walk along an old fire trail. Lyre Birds, Antichinas and Pretty Face Wallabies can be seen along the trail.

6. Spring Creek - Explore the cascades of the Upper Styx. The river is beautiful at any level of flow with water cascading over the rocks.

7. The old sawmill Hydro - After a steep climb out of the cascades a short walk along the edge of the ridge brings you to the old sluice used to transport water to the hydro that powered an old sawmill. Remnants of the generator and pipe can still be inspected by walking down the path from the sluice gate.

8. Thungutti Camp - an easy walk takes you to Thungutti camp site at the entrance to the New England National Park. Full camping facilities are available. If you would like a little more luxury at this stage of your walk, a range of cabins are available between the Hydro and Thungutti (arrangements and bookings are required prior to departure).

9. Point Lookout - Explore the many trials and walks through the New England National Park as you make your way up to the viewing platforms at Wrights lookout and Point Lookout. Views of the escarpment, coastal hills and the coast line (on a clear day) will finish off your walk to the top of the range.
